Best First Job Ever

By Alicia Thompson of GreenGardenEcology.com

The first job I ever had was at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Laguna Beach, CA. The owners had an interesting philosophy. They said that we could eat as much chocolate and candy as we wanted while we were at work. So there I was, 16 years old, and my first week of work I stuffed my face with chocolate strawberries, caramel apples, fudge, truffels, turtles and everything else you can imagine. Of course I made myself sick and after that only picked at the cholocate and candy, never overindulged. I thought it was pretty cool that my bosses allowed their employees to eat as much as they desired. First, it boosted the moral and second, we got sick of chocolate anyway. What a great first job I will never forget.

My brother has a farm where he grows you pick strawberries. While most of the places frown on eating strawberries while you pick since they sell them by the pound my brother makes it a rule that you have to eat as you pick.

He has lots of fun with the kids as he says in an exaggerated gruff tone, "You remember the rules...You have to eat while you pick" The kids always giggle.

My brother has more strawberries than people can pick so why not have some fun. It is really funny to see the kids come back to weigh out with strawberry juice all over their faces and down their clothes.

The kids love it when he tells them the did a good job and the parents are delighted that he makes it fun for them.

They come back year after year.
